The Andhra Pradesh Official Language Act of 1966 declared Telugu as the official language of the State and the Government have been implementing it in a phased manner. There are many non-Telugu people in the State, especially in the Twin Cities. Those who are in Government service and in other organisations have to equip themselves with the knowledge of Telugu at the earliest. Hence the Telugu Akademi under its Second Language Telugu Teaching Programme offers two free Telugu Courses for the benefit of the Administrative personnel and also others who are not native speakers of Telugu since the year of establishment.

The first course is an Introductory Course of a duration of 5 months and is open for those who have no basic knowledge of Telugu. It aims at giving a moderate ability in conversation, reading and writing. The minimum educational qualification for admission into this course is a pass in S.S.C. examination.

The Second Course is an Advanced Course of a duration of 5 months and is intended for persons who have successfully completed the Introductory Course of the Akademi. These courses envisage a more thorough knowledge of the structure of the language and its cultural content.

The Telugu Introductory Course is also introduced through electronic media offline and online. Over 200 animations, 1000 audio files, Phonetic and Phonemic drills, conversations and a glossary of over 1000 words are included and Interactive Practice Exercises are also provided in this course.

Online testing and certification is also available in this media through learn Telugu at www.andhratoday.com.

The Akademi conducts a Telugu Training Programme of non-Telugu IAS Probationers selected to Andhra Pradesh every year in coordination with MCR Institute of Human Resource Development.
